Non-parametric analysis of efficiency in cooperatives in the agricultural sector.

Cooperatives are a fundamental pillar of the solidarity economy and play an important role within the economic system as job generators. The objective of the present work is to analyze the determinants of the efficiency of the Multiactive Cooperatives without a Savings Section in Colombia during the period 2003-2015. The analysis is based on the selection of those factors that, according to the literature, perfectly explain the situation of cooperatives, as well as the selection of the two-stage DEA non-parametric technique methodology, proposed by Simar and Wilson. As inputs we suggest the number of associates and employees, administrative expenses, capital stock and operating income. Operational surpluses constitute the considered output. The results indicate a technical efficiency of 50% on average. Finally, the variable increase in the number of associates is the main factor determinants efficiency.
