Proposal to improve the production process in industrial stretch polyvinyl chloride film plant in Cartagena-Colombia applying Value Stream Mapping

Abstract

This article presents the evaluation and proposal for improvement in the productive process in the plant of film polyvinyl chloride (PVC stretch) of a manufacturing company in the Mamonal industrial sector in Cartagena, Colombia. The methodology applied was Value Stream Mapping (VSM), for the identification of families of production, characterization of the present state of the flow of materials and information and definition of a future state map. As a result, developed proposal for improvement of the film plant strech getting a decrease of 42% in the delivery time required for orders of the family of roll production for industrial use. With this improvement concludes that, with simple targeted actions, it is possible to achieve significant progress in the improvement of production processes of this type of manufacturing companies, being evident the impact generated by the establishment of a continuous flow and level in the chain of value creation.
