Inteligencia artificial en salud en América Latina y Colombia: cerrando brechas y aprovechando oportunidades

- La inteligencia artificial tiene el potencial de reducir brechas estructurales en acceso, eficiencia y calidad de la atención en América Latina, siempre que su implementación sea contextualizada y orientada a valor.
- En la región, el impacto de la inteligencia artificial dependerá críticamente de la gobernanza de datos, los marcos éticos, la regulación y la validación local.
- Sin una implementación responsable, la inteligencia artificial puede amplificar inequidades, sesgos y exclusión digital en poblaciones vulnerables.
- Colombia y América Latina tienen la oportunidad estratégica de desarrollar modelos equitativos y contextualizados de inteligencia artificial en salud, alineados con la generación de valor para los sistemas sanitarios.
La inteligencia artificial: una oportunidad en medio de brechas estructurales
La inteligencia artificial (IA) está transformando rápidamente múltiples campos, en particular la medicina y las ciencias de la salud, no solo como una innovación tecnológica, sino como un cambio potencial en la forma en que se toman decisiones clínicas, se organizan los servicios y se estructuran los sistemas de salud1. Desde algoritmos diagnósticos y modelos predictivos hasta la reciente irrupción de modelos generativos y herramientas generativas, la IA ha evolucionado desde aplicaciones puntuales hacia tecnologías capaces de modificar procesos asistenciales, operativos relacionados con la prestación de servicios y administrativos en los sistemas de salud2-5. El avance exponencial de esta tecnología ha generado expectativas considerables sobre su capacidad para mejorar la calidad, la eficiencia y el acceso, pero también ha planteado interrogantes relevantes en torno a la seguridad, la equidad, la gobernanza y la responsabilidad6.
