The objective of this article is to show an innovative proposal for a research procedure that must be carried out in order for companies to have an organizational design oriented to the required strategic direction, so that they are competitive in the market. It was a qualitative study, documentary design and descriptive level, under the heuristic method for the creative process of the own authorship procedure. As a result, a 4-phase procedural structure is shown: 1) identification of the internal elements of the companies that must be evaluated to synthesize their current behavior regarding distinctive capabilities and deficiencies; 2) precision of the variables external to the companies that they must consider to synthesize the risks and opportunities in the immediate future; 3) determination of the tools and products required to formulate the strategic direction for companies to perform competitively under the internal and external conditions in which they operate; and, 4) precision of the elements and form of analysis to detect the implications that the strategic direction proposed for a company generates in its organizational design. From the review of the theoretical orientations of the authors of reference, plus the knowledge in the organizational area of the authors of this article, it was possible to capture a procedure to create organizational designs linked to the strategic direction of any type of company.
