Abstract

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) pose different and diverse challenges that have motivated the study of educational policies and transversal competences in health sciences students. This is because health professionals are responsible for public health and the social and health well-being of the population. In this sense, the execution of strategies that allow the implementation of a people-based management could improve the quality of life through institutional direction and the sensitivity of professional practices. The objective of this research is to identify the dimensions of socially responsible behavior from the perspective of transversal competences in health sciences students enrolled in undergraduate professional careers in Chile. This work develops an exploratory factor analysis (EFA), applies the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test, Bartlett's sphericity test and calculates the internal consistency coefficients. The results show that the principles based on empathy and solidarity contribute to the constitution of transversal competences valued by university students. It is important that universities can include comprehensive training in their educational models. Finally, it is essential and necessary to incorporate the values that characterize socially responsible behavior in the academic offerings of health sciences, because they are consistent with the development of social sensitivity and environmental awareness.
