Abstract

Foresight is a leadership competence that enables organizational leaders to adopt a future perspective that facilitates the formulation of a Normative Vision (notion of transcendence towards the long term) for decision making. Competence is manifested when leaders face issues related to the future and their long-term and complex strategic decisions. The objective of this research was to adapt and validate the Foresight Styles Assessment (FSA) instrument to the Latin American idiosyncrasy and in Spanish language, being named Evaluación de Estilos de Foresight (EEF) in order to make it a reliable tool to measure Foresight competence in leaders of Spanish-speaking organizations, especially for Colombia, and to evaluate its psychometric properties. The instrument went through three phases, the first was a cultural adaptation, the second phase was its assertive translation into Spanish, consolidating an instrument in Spanish with 23 items.  The third phase was the validation of the instrument with a refined sample of 118 individuals related to the Technological Extension program, applying the 26-item EEF instrument with Likert-type response, which yielded a Cronbach's alpha of 0.981, showing a satisfactory fit. In addition, the statistical techniques of Factor Analysis (FA), Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) were used, confirming four constructs or latent variables (Framer/Setter, Adapter/Adaptor, Tester/Experimenter and Reactor/Resistant), reducing the questions to 23 items for Colombia. The EEF is a useful tool for decision making by the leaders of organizations, allowing them to improve their vision, competitiveness and sustainability.
