Implementation of intelligent control systems for wastewater processing

Abstract

The growing demand for efficient and sustainable processes in the water treatment industry has motivated the search for advanced automatic control solutions. The development of the project involved the installation and configuration of a scaled water treatment plant, equipped with level and temperature sensors, actuators and an intelligent control system and monitoring interface designed in LabView. Different control strategies were implemented and evaluated, including classical controllers (such as PID) and advanced intelligent control techniques. This approach allowed a comprehensive comparison of the performances of each method under real operating conditions. The implementation of multivariable fuzzy control allowed the simultaneous regulation of the liquid level and temperature of the system, with a low processing cost allowing compactness of the process. This multivariable control approach not only improved overall system efficiency, but also demonstrated the feasibility of automating complex water treatment processes with minimal human intervention.
