Introduction: An experience is narrated in which the subject of care is a pioneer nurse in the discipline of nursing in Colombia who was cared for by a graduate and a colleague, and in which each moment of care and growth is experienced for the cared-for person and the caregivers. Objective: To understand the importance of nursing care to the patient and the nurse by narrating and analyzing a nursing situation. Materials and Methods: The analysis focuses on the concepts of metaparadigm, nursing worldview, patterns of knowing, and Kristen Swanson’s middle-range theory of caring. The results are visible in the nurse-patient relationship, the nursing process, the achievement of wholeness and healing, and the experience of the patient’s nostalgic farewell. Conclusion: Nursing narratives are relevant to theory, practice, and research because, through them, nursing professionals make known events that are experienced in daily work and make visible the care provided in interaction with others, contributing to the evolution of knowledge of the discipline.
